LEARNING GREEK IN ALIMOS-THE BIRTH PLACE OF THUCYDIDES


This programme is designed for people who want to make rapid 
progress in Modern Greek language and deepen their knowledge of Greece and its culture. It offers an intensive language course for beginner, intermediate and advanced level. The course is 35 hours, divided into 8 days, and includes grammar, reading, speaking, writing and 5 hours of Ancient Greek Language. It also provides excursions to the archaeological places and museums in Alimos and around , rest and swimming to wonderful beaches.

Alimos
 (Greek: Άλιμος) is a municipality in the southern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. The municipality comprises two settlements, the suburban seaside town of Kalamaki (Greek: Καλαμάκι), and the inland community of Trachones(Greek: Τράχωνες) (Ano Kalamaki, upper Kalamaki). Alimos had 41,720 inhabitants in the 2011 census.






PERIOD OF THE PROGAMME:18/07/2015-26/07/2015

Our Programme includes:

1. Transportation .

2. Accomodation for 8 nights.

3. Breakfast and one meal each day of the programme.

4. 35 hours language tuition in modern greek language (20 hours of attendance and 15 hours of language practice)and 5 hours of Ancient Greek language. Teaching will be conducted in Greek by communicative (direct) method. Other languages are used if necessary. 

 TYPE OF COURSES – LEVELS
Beginners
At the end of the lessons, participants are expected to have acquired the skills to: Use everyday vocabulary as well as some basic phrases to communicate. Introduce themselves and be able to ask and answer questions about each others (e.g. where they live, people they know, things they own). Interact in a basic way, provided that the co-speaker uses a clear and slow speech.

Intermediate
(Modern Greek for those with a basic knowledge of the language.) At the end of the lessons, participants are expected to have acquired the skills to: Understand the main points of a clear standard input on common matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure etc. Deal with a variety of situations which are likely to arise while travelling in Greek-speaking countries. Produce a simple, consistent text on everyday topics or on personal interest. Describe events, experiences, dreams, hopes, ambitions. Provide arguments and explain own opinion and plans.

Advanced
(Modern Greek for students who have a solid knowledge of Greek.) At the end of the lessons, participants are expected to have acquired the skills to: Understand the main ideas of a complex text on both practical and abstract topics. Interact fluently and spontaneously with native speakers. Produce a clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects. Explain own point of view on complex issues (stating advantages and disadvantages on a variety of topics.

On the last day of the programme there will be an Information Day , hosted by the Municipality of Alimos, in which lectures will be given by professors of Greek and other Universities on the subject of Thucydides

Certificate of attendance will be given to all participants.

Participants who need visa (Eastern European countries, South Africa etc.) must apply as soon as possible to arrange officially for their invitation and to get their visa in time. Professors and students must have their University or school identity card for free entrance to the museums , the Acropolis and the Archaeological places. All participants should also have valid travel and health insurance for their stay in Greece.
Final informations about the programme , bus , metros, and the hotels will be sent by the end of June.
